A food knowledge gateway…
…founded from a desire for better foodways.
Our story began in 2011 on a coffee farm in Costa Rica. Invited to share meals in the community, the founder of Ruby Rooster experienced her first taste of the global diversity in foodways. It was an eye opening experience.
The ingredients, the flavour, the community, the simplicity – it made her wonder…
how can Canadians improve their eating experiences?
Solutions to this question are central to our business.

Founder and CEO
At Ruby Rooster I share my decades of experience researching and working in sustainable development and food systems. I want individuals, families and communities to thrive and I believe that better foodways are a keystone action to get there.
I believe that,
Hunger, waste, inclusion, biodiversity, and life quality can be addressed through better foodways.
Consumers are central to our food future with each choice they make with each dollar spent. Citizens, businesses, governments and non-governmental organizations all have roles to play in improving our foodways.
Informed consumers with an economic or value-driven motivation and timely access to resources can and will act for sustained, positive impact.
I’m grateful for the food abundance we experience in Canada but I’m also concerned about the direction of our food future. Our food system is complex and opaque. As a result, it’s not easy for consumers to understand and make food choices they can feel good about. We don’ just have to ‘get what we get.’ With enhanced food literacy, I challenge you to think about the way you eat now and empower you to choose the way you want to eat. Ruby Rooster helps you navigate the complex landscape toward better foodways, providing guidance to help get from where you are to where you want to be.
I want to help create the best eating experiences that lead to our best communities and our best food future.
